While I fully agree with this post, as a speech language pathologist I would like to add that technology that is used for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) is not what this author is referring to. Technology that is a dedicated device used for communication only, often locked into the application with guided access or something similar, can be life changing for neurodiverse children with complex communication needs. This does not “count” as screen time and should be available throughout a child’s day as it is their voice.

Every autistic young man I know is a disgusting drooling porn-addicted freak. 3/3. Totally hopeless with girls. Leering, vulgar and bug-eyed when they talk to them.

One of the single worst of the many consequences of our negligence is what we let Pornhub do to autistic boys. The effect is horrific to me beyond my power to describe in words.

Disappointing the article wasn’t “bold and outspoken” enough to mention that issue.

Hello there. Thank you for reading and caring enough to leave a comment. I absolutely agree with you that pornography is a problem, particularly for this demographic. Believe me, I am not shy about talking about porn addiction. We have devoted several podcasts, Substacks, and even an entire chapter of Kids' Brains & Screens to the issue of pornography. As you can understand, when writing a weekly Substack, there is only so much we can cover in any one post, and this week my top priority was dispelling the myth that typical screen use is helpful or beneficial for kids with autism. I would love to dive deeper into the topic of autism and screens in future posts to cover pornography more in depth. Thanks for your note and idea!

Also I think I have autism lol pornography really fucked me up. Fortunately for me it was early 2000’s, not post 2010 true nightmare.

I believe teen boys were always the target market for the internet pornographers, and our autistic boys became the incels and the gooners.

Utterly horrifying.

Thanks Melanie I will check it out. I believe the problem is not addiction, it is the thing in itself; not pornography, but its distribution. It fundamentally changed boys. How dare they.

I would appreciate if you read this brief note. Thanks.
